Proud to be part of

Physical Education

Here at St Mark’s we offer a broad and inclusive curriculum. Students will cover a wide variety of sports throughout the course of an academic year. Some of the sports delivered during lessons include; Football, Trampolining, Basketball, Table Tennis, Cricket, Athletics, and many more.

We boast fantastic sporting facilities including; a sports hall, gymnasium, fitness suite, tennis and basketball courts and also an Astroturf pitch. Furthermore, we also have the opportunity to teach lessons in BMX at the local Merton BMX track. This allows us to offer a broad and inclusive curriculum. The During the course of an academic year students will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports and fitness related activities including: Football, Trampolining, Basketball, Table Tennis, Cricket, Athletics, and many more.

Our expectations are that students arrive promptly to lessons with their full St Mark’s PE kit, and that they apply themselves fully to whatever activity is being offered. In return, students can expect to take part in engaging lessons that are tailored to meet their individual needs. The sports and activities are changed every half-term, allowing students to experience a wide variety of activities throughout the course of the academic year.

We believe in providing students with specific feedback on how they can improve their athletic performance, and not simply labelling students with a grade or number. Therefore, students are no longer graded as such, but are instead provided with regular feedback on areas of strength, as well as specific areas for development.

Regular participation in Physical Education contributes to our students’ health and wellbeing. One of our primary aims is to help students to develop their understanding of the importance of leading a healthy active lifestyle, and ultimately helping them to make physical activity and sport a lifelong habit.

There are whole range of career opportunities that are available to those that decide to study PE at either GCSE or BTEC level including: Personal Trainer, Sports Coach, Nutritionist and Physiotherapist to name but a few.

As parents and guardians, we would ask for your support in helping to ensure that your child consistently brings their full St Mark’s PE kit, so that they are always prepared for lessons. Furthermore, we would ask for your support in helping the PE team to encourage students to come along to some of the many after school clubs on offer.

After school sports clubs run every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after school. These run from 3 – 4pm. We also host a GCSE PE theory club every Friday from 2.45-3.30pm. There are also several morning football training sessions which run to extend the opportunities for our G&T students.
