Social Sciences
Social science is the study of how people interact with one another. At St Mark's we explore this concept through Law, Psychology and Sociology. As part of our wider whole school vision to allow all students be transformed from their starting point, all 3 of these subjects broaden our curriculum and support students with applying their skills and knowledge from KS4 into this new range of subjects at KS5.
As 3 of our most popular subject, the curriculum in each area has been designed to develop cross curricular links with Science, Health and Social Care, History and English by preparing students with academic skills and understanding across these subjects. In additional, students are taught how to be critical thinkers, analytical readers and articulate writers to prepare them for success in further or higher education.
Psychology is the science of the brain and behaviour. At A Level, students will engage with contemporary and classic research on a wide variety of psychological phenomena. For those looking for the more day to day understanding of how social science impact our lives, Sociology explores key areas of human interactions and behaviour, and develop skills that are necessary for success in university, the world of work and society. Finally, for those that want to explore the investigative side of social science, the Law course provides students with an understanding of the English legal system and substantive law, including both criminal and civil law. Students develop analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which will assist students in higher education, in the workplace and in everyday life.
